No it can't, but I'd give it a clean anyway - you don't know how long it's been lying around gathering dust.

i doubt it would have lice, but to disinfect it from anything else, take a Clorox wipe or some other sort of wipe type thing and rub it all over, including the plates that go against your hair. Have fun!

I relly highly doubt it could have lice because the inensity of the heat and all. Most hair straightners reach 450 degrees. Unless you see little bugs crawling on it I think it'd be okay. But still you should probabaly wipe/spray it down with a disinfectant.

If I were you I would put hot water on the hair part (not the wires because that would not be good) Look closely on it and you would see some little white things on it if it had lice on it.(I think) Hope it works out for you!!

I wouldn't chance it unless it is new. However, you buy hats at stores and other people are always putting those on their heads to try them on. What you could do is heat it up and leave it on for at least thirty minutes or longer. Lice can't live without blood, but their eggs can live for a long time. After you do that let the iron COOL completely and place it in a plastic bag and tie it shut for 3-5 days. Then heat it up good before you use it the first time just for the heck of it. You should be good to go ! This is what we do in the beauty industry when someone comes in with lice so we don't have to throw our scissors or clippers or irons away. I am a stylist now for 25 yrs.

for the record folks this is what lice and their eggs look like !!!

It probably doesn't have lice. However, it has probably accumlated bacteria on it, so I would highly recommend cleaning it first. To do so:

1) Wipe down all the surfaces with a damp cloth, avoiding the outlet or wire. (Make sure the iron is not plugged in when doing this!)

2) Wet a sponge with Clorox bleach or another disinfectant (This may discolor the iron slightly, but will not affect how it works . . . I've done it before on my $150 CHI straightener with no bad results . . .). Wipe down the iron thoroughly with the bleach, and allow it to air dry.

3) Using a clean, dampened sponge or cloth, wipe down the iron to get rid of all residue.

4) Repeat steps 1-3, substituting rubbing alcohol instead of bleach in step 2.

It's a good idea to follow this process at least a couple times yearly, depending on how often you use your straightener, because hair products and/or bacteria tend to build up on it and make it icky!

Good luck -- hope this helps you! =D
