What's the best hair straightener for a novice in hair care?

I'd like to get a hair straightener. I've relied on my friends to do it in the past, but would like to invest in my own that is quick and easy to use. Suggestions?

I would say get one from Conair if you dont wanna spend much. Theyre about 40-150 dollars. Pretty cheap! If you actually want a good qulity one, i would say get a proffesional one FROM YOUR STYLIST!! (as long as you dont get your hair cut from supercuts or somewhere gross like that) those stylist ones are about 400+ dollars. Personally, i think of those as a great investment!

Hope that helps!

I like Chi straightners their pretty good. A ceramic Chi straightner is EXELLENT though!

Remington Wet2Straight. I've used various straighteners and this one is by far the best

You need a ceramic flatiron. Metal will heat hair unevenly and lead to damage, also there are tiny burrs in the metal which will catch your strands and shred them. I am very impressed with my Jilbere iron which I purchased at Sally Beauty Supply quite inexpensively. It has an adjustable heat setting, which is important to me because my hair is fine and bleached and needs a lower heat to avoid damage. If you have thicker hair, you need adjustable heat because you will want it to be hotter. Practice sectioning your hair with a clip, starting from the nape of your neck and working up, taking down one row of hair at a time about an inch thick. Also, if you have extremely curly or african american hair you may want to look into getting a relaxer. It will do some of the work for you and make straightening easier. You will want a medium heat for relaxed hair, and a thermal protecting spray is important, too. matrix makes a good one, so does paul mitchell.

Oh and PS, Supercuts does not have to be gross. I happen to work at a very nice one in a classy town. It is all about the location and the staff's talents. It is not nice to make such prejudiced, generalized, and hurtful statements.
